Communion Hairstyles Simple to do at Home

Communion hairstyles simple to do at home: a few quick and easy ideas for the busy mom.

Communion season is upon us and if you are wondering how to style your little angel’s hair for her First Holy Communion, look no further as I have outlined two, basic, yet adorable Communion hairstyles the busy mom can accomplish effortlessly.

Pictured are two Communion hairstyles anyone can handle seen on Oscar nominee Quvenzhané Wallis. The nine-year-old actress from “Beasts of the Southern Wild” paraded her adorable self on Oscar’s red carpet as well as the Kids’ Choice Awards’ orange carpet with the cutest age appropriate hairstyles perfect for First Holy Communion.

Q’s Oscar hairstyle comes complete with tiara, as many Communion hairstyles will undoubtedly have. Her curls were put up loosely placed, creating a soft up-do. To recreate this look use a one-inch barrel curling iron.

  • Starting at the nape, curl a one-inch section spraying each strand lightly with a thermal styling spray, like this one from Kenra.
  • Secure each curl to the head with a pin curl clip to set in place until you are finished curling the entire head.
  • Remove all of the pins and run the fingers throughout the hair to slightly loosen each curl.
  • Pull all of the hair back to the crown and create a high ponytail.
  • Take a piece of hair near the elastic and wrap the around it to hide the band and pin the hair with a bobby pin in the back to keep it in place.
  • Take each curl in your fingers and pin them around the ponytail with hairpins to secure the curls, leaving a few dangling around for a tousled effect.
  • Spray with a light finishing spray.

Q’s side bun for the Kids’ Choice Awards is a variation of the standard bun and would look adorable with a white flower to perfect the First Communion hairdo. Hair donuts are so simple to use, especially for Communion hairstyles. However as in Q’s case, make the bun slightly off center and leave a piece of hair dangling. Curl the extra hair with an iron and secure with a pin for her variation of a classic up-do.
