Tousled Waves Like Rosamund Pike at the SAG Awards

Tousled waves like Rosamund Pike wore to the 21st Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards is a hot hair trend bob wearers love to emulate. Gone Girl’s Rosamund Pike added texture to her bob, complementing her navy Christian Dior haute couture. Recreate her look with tips from her celebrity hairstylist Maranda Widlund for Matrix.

Welcome to Ask the Pro Stylist’s How-to Tuesday. I wrote a piece about Rosamund Pike on Examiner.com Monday after interviewing the stylist who gave her the SAG red carpet look. But I found the exact directions on how-to create the tousled waves were missing, which is something readers and clients ask me to show them how to do at home. So, below is an excerpt from the piece with my added guide to recreate tousled waves.

  • To get Rosamund Pike’s SAG Awards red carpet tousled waves, Maranda prepped her hair with Matrix StyleLink Volume Booster, throughout the entire head, and then blew dry.
  • For a textured, tousled look, use Matrix Biolage VolumeBloom Volumizing Spray at the roots to add a powdered texture, and curl with the R Session Tool. OK, but which one?
  • Add a drop of Matrix Biolage Exquisite Oil Moringa Oil for shine to complete the look.
  • Spray Matrix Biolage Complete Control Hairspray all over for a firm hold to finish.

I didn’t press the issue on the styling tool because it took forever for the interview questions to come to me and even longer for the how-to. It needed to be timely to be labeled newsworthy.

However, clients always want me to demonstrate how to create the tousled waves. Even if you have naturally wavy/curly hair, your hair will need to be styled to recreate this “natural look.”

You don’t need to go out and purchase a special iron. You can use your flat iron or even a large barrel curling iron. The trick is leaving the ends out and wrapping the hair around either iron, not running it through the clasps. That will create a smooth style, not tousled waves. Until next week, happy styling!
