At Home Fashion Color Correction: How to Remove Violet

At Home Fashion Color Correction Question

Happy Thursday gorgeous! It’s been a minute since I’ve received a non-nail beauty question for Ask the Pro Stylist. Now that we are knee-deep in roots due to Covid-19, I was patiently waiting for some color correction queries. The following came over from a beauty school dropout. All joking aside, she admits to not finishing cosmetology:

Hello, I hope you are doing well. I have a question if that’s alright: I attempted to remove a 5-month-old cosmos tri-ombre via soap cap and now it’s this horrendous violet. (See, this is why I needed to finish cosmetology).  I want to strip to re-dye it a medium chocolate brown with blonde 8 lv chunk/lights in front. Should I just put a dark brown over it?

Thank you, and I appreciate your help

My Short Answer

Hi –

Hope you are well. Putting a dark brown over it would be your best bet.

However, I dug up an old YouTube video with some tips if you can get your hand on professional color. If not, then just go darker until salons reopen. But not too dark, as that could also pose a problem trying to remove it.

At Home Fashion Color Correction Tip

If your fashion color has become dull and it’s time for something new, then the following could help.

The video shows us applying Paul Mitchell the Color XG Clear Booster and 30-volume crème developer. Within seconds, the blonde was back. In addition, the integrity of the hair was intact. However, this should be done swiftly and if possible with the help of another set of hands.

Additionally, this color correction is for professional use only. The Paul Mitchell products are sold only to licensed cosmetologists. This is not for at-home use unless under the direct guidance of a professional.

Social Distancing at the Salon

I have strong feelings about this. There is no feasible way to safely do hair in a salon now. Despite best efforts, we cannot social distance. Literally, we are in the guest’s face or leaning over them in a sink. In addition, we all need to wear masks. I cannot effectively do hair while the client wears a mask. And, on a busy Saturday, we are doing a few people at once. I love my profession. But, I love my family more.

Happy Styling!

I hope my at home fashion color correction was of some assistance. Remember, stay home and stay safe. Any questions feel free to email me at asktheprostylist@gmail.com. Until then, happy styling!
