Bad Haircut Fix: How to Inform Your Stylist It’s a Mess

Do you need a bad haircut fix? Today’s Hair Police discusses how to nonchalantly inform your stylist that your current haircut is a mess.

Happy Monday gorgeous, and welcome to Ask the Pro Stylist’s Hair Police of the week! If you are in need of a bad haircut fix, specifically a choppy one-length cut, I have some advice for you. Discreetly let your hairstylist know it isn’t even with a few tips that won’t hurt their feelings.

Hairstylists are the professionals. Generally speaking, we know best. Our education consists of a certain amount of mandatory cosmetology schooling hours. Additionally, most continue learning the latest and greatest techniques and innovations. However, some are set in their ways. Also, there are a few that never want a guest to direct us in how a cut should go.

So, what do you do when you know you’re in need a bad haircut fix? I recently observed seasoned stylists elevating one-length haircuts. As a result, the straight line the client wants was way off with long and short pieces. Sometimes a softer line is the desired result, however I am talking about a botch job.

You will tell if your cut is off if you do not feel hands or scissors on your neck or upper back. If the stylist is cutting the length and you see the hair lifting off your body, I guarantee it will not be even.

Please do not inform him/her the cut it is bad while the service is in progress. Simply ask to have it blown very straight, and then look at the back while in the chair. You will see the unevenness immediately and can request a bad haircut fix.Bad Haircut Fix

To get the look of the above model from the Baja East’s SS 2017 show, follow the guide below from Guido, Redken Global Creative Director.

  1. Prep hair with Beach Envy Volume Texturizing Shampoo to help enhance its natural
  2. texture. Allow hair to air dry.
  3. Part hair in a messy middle part.
  4. Take a bandana and fold it in a large fold. Tie it tight across the forehead behind the head to add a strong, hippie chic look.
  5. Use hands to pull at random strands across the part for a messy, effortless look.
  6. Finally, spray Diamond Oil High Shine Airy Mist throughout the bottom half of the length. Mist length with water for a messy, shiny look.
