Bad Tipping: Tip Well, Especially During the Holidays

Bad tipping, are you guilty of it? If you are, you most likely aren’t reading this and I am preaching to the choir. However, if your guilty conscience is screaming at you right now, read on for the proper tipping amount during the holidays and beyond.

Happy Monday beautiful! As such, it is time for another Hair Police rant from Ask the Pro Stylist. If you are guilty of bad tipping, you are on today’s chopping block.

Every holiday season I post a gratuity guide. Sometimes it is to simply inform clients the necessity of holiday tipping. Other times the rant results from a cheapskate.

To begin, don’t brag about the cost of the expensive designer bags, shoes or sneakers you are wearing, and then tip under $5 for your stylist, especially if your service costs $100+. Instead, do the math and leave at least 20%, which would be $20.

Standard gratuity for hairstylists is at least that, if not more. Consider anything less bad tipping. For the holidays, it should be more. Whether it is monetary, a gift certificate or some other treat; do not forget your stylist this holiday season. Otherwise, chances are your next visit will not receive the same courteous and friendly service he or she provides. A card will also brighten the day of your hairstylist, letting her/him know how much you appreciate them.

For more Ask the Pro Stylist Hair Police rants, similar to today’s bad tipping, visit next Monday. Until then, happy styling!
