This week’s question asks for beauty advice for dark under eyes circles. A client is in her mid forties and suffers from dark under eye circles. As she had a big family event to attend, which required a lot of picture taking, she wanted some beauty advice on the best way to conceal the darkness.
Many years ago, I provided a unique service to the bridal industry, one that I had used on myself. I found a makeup artist/hairstylist, the ultimate bridesmaid for my wedding, who cared for my needs until the first dance, following me around for pictures as if I was a celebrity. Pauline was so busy, she asked me to pick up her overflow, of which I did. At the same time, mi Madre worked for a cosmetic wholesaler and I had access to a plethora of makeup.
My favorite makeup was by far the color wheel that concealed all types of blemishes and unwanted things, like dark under eye circles. So simple to use before applying foundation and it hid the flaws.
The premise was as basic as the ABC’s, based on Kindergarten learning of the primary colors. The opposite ends of the color spectrum counteracted each other, green balances red and yellow balances blue or purple, the base color underneath dark under eye circles.
I advised my client with dark under eye circles to head over to Ulta Beauty for the color wheel, or at the very least, yellow or orange-based concealer. The cosmetics sales person sold her a bill of goods and products she didn’t need, totaling upwards of $100.
During my amazing day at the International Beauty Show, I came across Audrey Morris Cosmetics and picked up my own container of yellow concealer at an astounding show deal for my own dark under eye circles, a feature inherited from my Sicilian mother, her mother and so on.
My beauty advice for this Wednesday, never get bamboozled by the sales girl at the makeup counter, they want to make a sale, period and try to remember the basic teachings from Kindergarten in every day life. And, for dark under eye circles, use a yellow concealer under your own concealer and foundation or an orange-based stick if you cannot find yellow.
