Bejeweled Updo for Prom or Brides from the Milan Runway

A bejeweled updo is a perfect hairstyle for prom or brides. This week’s how-to guide comes straight off the Milan runway from the Fall/Winter 2015 Prada show as created by Guido, Redken Global Creative Director.

Happy Tuesday and the end of March. Here’s to warmer days, prom and sunny weddings. Every Tuesday features a beauty, nails or hair how-to, step-by-step guide, which as of late has been dedicated to prom hairstyles. “This week is a twist on a classic look, a young, sophisticated updo adorned with beautiful jeweled barrettes for the Fall/Winter 2015 runway show in Milan.”

According to Guido, the bejeweled updo he created for Prada “has a slightly 50s or 60s kind of feeling, which is always Prada-like, but it’s still very modern and sort of futuristic.” You could purchase your own barrettes, or make them if you are crafty. Using Redken hairstyling products, Guido’s step-by-step guide is as follows.

  1. Apply a quarter-size amount of Redken Stay High 18 high-hold gel to mousse to damp hair and blow dry flat against the head and away from the face.
  2. Gather the hair into a very high, tight ponytail in the middle of the head and secure with an elastic band.
  3. Hide the elastic by wrapping a small section of hair from the ponytail around the band, securing with a small U-shaped pin.
  4. Section by section, backcomb the ponytail near the elastic to create volume.
  5. Flip the length of the ponytail to one side and secure with closed fasteners (i.e., bobby pins) and a decorative barrette.
  6. Finish with a thorough spray of Redken Fashion Work 12 versatile working spray to hold the style and clean up any fly-aways.

Visit me next Tuesday for another hair or beauty how-to, similar to this week’s bejeweled updo, perfect for prom or brides. Until then, happy styling!
