Is blue and silver eye shadow for you? This was a question recently asked of me by a client because I used the colors on an 18-year-old girl for prom. Choose the right makeup for your season, or a combination of the color of your eyes, hair and skin that complements your wardrobe, not matches it.
Whoop, whoop, happy Hump Day hotties! Welcome to Ask the Pro Stylist where I answer readers’ and clients’ questions. Today I respond to a question a 36-year-old client had for her and her partner who is about 10 years her senior. Both are in a wedding wearing blue gowns and wanted to know what blue and silver eye shadow I used on an 18-year-old girl for her prom. I gave her my selections, which were similar to Maybelline Color Tattoo Pure Pigments Loose Powder in Brash Blue and L’Oreal Paris Color Riche Dual Effects in Incredible Grey, but not without a little makeup advice.
It is more advisable to match your skin, hair and eyes to complement your outfit, than it is to wear colors that are similar to your wardrobe; think Tammy Faye Bakker. When I used the colors on the prom girl they were in her season. She has dark brown hair, green eyes and porcelain skin. Yes, she wore a navy dress, but the blue eye shadow was merely an accent to bring out her eyes and the silver highlighted her brow bone and inner corner. Bold colors such as blue and silver eye shadow should be used minimally, with the help of a professional and only to highlight, never on an entire lid.
If you’re not sure which season you are, visit a makeup counter or choose your Color me Beautiful seasonal selection. This not only helps to select what makeup works best on your face, but also is great advice on which fashion items to always have on hand.
