Braid Hairstyles: Learn How to Get Cascading Braids

Braid hairstyles: Learn how to get cascading braids, perfect for a daytime or beach wedding, prom or any moment that you want to mix braids and curls. This braid tutorial could be attempted at home, or brought to your favorite professional to replicate for your big day.

Hello gorgeous. Glad you stumbled on my weekly how-to Tuesday where I attempt to provide step-by-step hair guides to try at home or bring to your licensed professional. Please keep in mind that all of the information comes from working stylists and might not be the simplest to complete the first time out unless you have hair experience.

The past five weeks were dedicated to wedding hairstyles. Today’s braid hairstyle could be classified as a bridal look or used for any formal event or not, it is that transitional. The cascading braids were revealed earlier this summer during Miami Swim 2015 at the Suboo fashion show. Nick Irwin, TIGI Global Creative Director, had the goal of designing these “sexy and sophisticated looks for the collection that was inspired by the movement of modern dance.”

Although Labor Day signifies the official end of summer, the hot Long Island weather says otherwise, and it is the ideal time for braid hairstyles and this “tousled, wavy, three-braid look is the perfect complement for any beachgoer’s ensemble.” Keep the sidepieces pulled away from the face for a more formal look.

Braid Hairstyles: Cascading Braids

  • Work the CATWALK® by TIGI® Bodifying Spray through towel-dried hair from the root to the ends and blow-dry with a round brush to smooth the cuticle.
  • With a medium size tong, form loose, haphazard curls/waves throughout the head.
  • Create three, 3-strand braids (a large braid on top of the head, two smaller braids on either side), taking care to create a bit of lift at the hairline on top.
  • Secure all of the braids together with pins at the curvature of the back of the head.
  • With your fingers loosen and texturize the braids and hair at the nape of the neck to achieve the desired “undone” look. Skip this step for a more formal look.
  • Finish with a bit of CATWALK® by TIGI® Camera Ready Shine Spray at the hairline, and set the entire look with CATWALK® by TIGI® Work It Hairspray.
