Cell Phones and Haircuts: Just STOP!
Cell phones and haircuts don’t mix, period. After witnessing a barber attempt a haircut as he shaved a head, it became an absolute necessity to put the topic on this week’s Hair Police.
Happy Monday beautiful, and welcome to Ask the Pro Stylist’s Hair Police! Today we tackle a pet peeve of mine: cell phones and haircuts.
I wrote a column some time back about hair salon etiquette, and how rude it is for our guests to text or talk in the middle of the service. Unless it is an emergency, the client can wait to fidget while texting or shift the device back and forth to talk on the phone as we attempt to cut, color or style. If we take the time to stop, it sets back our book. However, I recently noticed a barber cut as he texted, which is not only unsafe, but also sends the message to the guest that he/she is simply not that important.
On my drive home from work last week, I passed a busy barbershop. As I was stuck in traffic, I watched one barber gaping at his cell phone and typing with a guest in the chair. The phone was in his hand as he approached the client with his buzzer, and then began clipping away. I wanted to leap from my car and scream at this very unprofessional professional that cell phones and haircuts should never go hand in hand…LITERALLY!
I make a living teaching future professionals about the beauty world, and a consistent challenge is cell phone addiction. So, imagine my face when I left my employ to witness one of the biggest cell phones and haircuts faux pas. Let’s just respect our guests and keep that cell phone in a pocket or drawer, unless of course it is an emergency…then kindly excuse yourself.
Visit me next Monday when the Hair Police tackles another hairy issue, similar to today’s cell phones and haircuts. And don’t forget to stop by tomorrow for a how-to hair guide perfect for the Thanksgiving cook. Until then, happy styling.
