Curl Creations Need Styling Spray
You want gorgeous curl creations that last? Then you need the right products. During a recent appointment a guest confessed she styled her sister’s hair, and the recipient of the curls complained the hair pulled. With a little investigation, the Hair Police figured out the culprit of the stickiness, and has a few tips to avoid this in the future for gorgeous curl creations.
Happy Monday marvelous readers, and welcome to Ask the Pro Stylist’s Hair Police column. On Friday I had the pleasure of sampling the new CHI Arc on a guest that wanted natural-looking waves for an event.
It was my first time using the new curling iron from CHI that grabs the hair and rotates the barrel by itself to create a curl. The Arc has a firm grasp on the hair, unlike other nonprofessional brands of automatic stylers. As I commented on the efficiency of the iron, I asked my guest if it pulled on her hair. She said no, and then proceeded to tell me a story of when she styled her sister’s curls.
The long and short of it is, when she attempted to add curls for a holiday, the young girl complained of her hair pulling as it was ironed. It came to light that the pulling was actually stickiness, which was caused from hairspray used to intensify each curl.
Now, it is great that guests are paying attention when stylists create fabulous curl creations. However, specific products are used, not hairspray, and certainly not a pharmacy brand. And not every curly hairstyle or event requires enduring curls formed with the help of a thermal styling spray.
Some curl creations and some hair types do benefit from a boost in a styling tool. It is best to ask your professional which product he or she recommends, especially if they have given you a gorgeous curly hairstyle before.
I have always been a fan of Kenra Professional Thermal Styling Spray 19. I recently received samples of CHI’s Infra Texture Dual Action Hairspray and 44 Iron Guard Thermal Protection Spray and have fallen in love with these as well when crafting curly creations.
Using both is of course optimal for curly creations, however what I love about CHI Infra Texture is that it is perfect for someone like my last guest who cannot afford a beauty counter full of hair supplies. One bottle will help to have lasting curls and hold the style in place without breaking the bank or leaving a sticky/tacky residue on the hair and/or iron.
Visit me next Monday to see if you have somehow violated the Hair Police. Until then, happy styling!
