DIY Hair Bleaching Is Funny, Yet An Epic Hair Fail: Must Watch

The DIY hair bleaching video from Super Deluxe is hysterical. However, as a professional hairstylist, I must advise against doing this at home. Read on in this week’s Hair Police with Ask the Pro Stylist to find out why.

Happy Monday beautiful, and welcome to the Hair Police with Ask the Pro Stylist. I saw this DIY hair bleaching on Facebook, an epic failure, yet also hysterical. Thankfully, the student of mine that posted it had the same awestruck reaction as myself.

So, to begin, professionals prefer the term lightening to bleaching. However, this is minor as compared to the rest of the video. It would seem, since it has many views, that calling it bleaching is a good keyword tactic in SEO standards.

The Super Deluxe model uses bleaching powder and lightening cream most likely purchased at a nonprofessional beauty supply. The volume of developer is conveniently left out. This is a necessary component of proper hair lightening. And the other supplies are just silly; a towel – duh, shower cap – pointless.

However, the yellow latex gloves that look like you are about to cook meth, clean up your bloody murder or do the dishes had me rolling. Finally, within the instructions is “unscrew cap.” Doesn’t that stand to reason?

But, what bothers me the most is the application process. Additionally, we know never to comb bleach through. This could potentially damage the hair. Also, the processing time might be +/- 40 minutes.

There are many factors to consider such as desired result, starting color, texture, etc. Results will vary from user to user. Therefore, I NEVER advise to color hair at home. Leave it to the pros please.

And then the way he was washing it out will get lightener in the eyes. Oy vey!

The best was how to create the toner with grape Kool-Aid and shampoo. Yes, purple does tone yellow but there was more yellow-orange in there. This leads me to believe his hair might have been lightened over to achieve the final look.

All in all, the message at the end was a good one. Especially in today’s hateful climate. “Infiltrate the alt-right and destroy them from the inside.”
