DIY Summer Hair Mask: Watermelon Coconut Oil
Today’s recipe for a DIY summer hair mask will tame hair that has lost its integrity, In addition it will hydrate and add shine to lackluster hair. Because the summer sun and chlorine wreak havoc on the hair, this is a unique way to reap the benefits of a popular and trendy beauty essential, coconut oil.
Happy Tuesday gorgeous, and welcome to Ask the Pro Stylist’s how-to guide of the week! Today we learn how to create a DIY summer hair mask with coconut oil. Wendy Rose Gould from Latest-Hairstyles.com brings the recipe to my readers, taking the “traditional coconut oil hair mask one step further.” Says Wendy; “It’s no secret that coconut oil is like liquid gold where hair is concerned. Dry hair slurps it up immediately. As a result, you can feel and see the difference after a treatment.”
This DIY summer hair mask combines coconut oil “with a super potent blend of hair-nourishing oils; Oontanga Oil, Camellia Seed Oil, and Argan Oil. Consequently, they’ll soften, hydrate, restore and strengthen the ends of your hair to prevent dreaded breakage and split ends.”
Coconut Oil is the latest and greatest beauty trend. From teeth pulling to anti-aging brain food, this is a miracle “especially beneficial for brittle, breaking hair. It’ll deeply moisturize, soften and add sheen.”
Oontanga Oil is made from African watermelon seeds, and is “full of essential fatty acids that stops breakage and makes hair shiny.” “Camellia Seed Oil comes from Korea. It permeates the hair shaft to restore vibrancy and strength. It also softens your hair and keeps split ends and breakage at bay.” Finally, “Argan Oil is a conditioning oil that seals the cuticle, adds shine, and makes hair more manageable during the styling process.”
According to Wendy, “Because this treatment is so oil heavy, we recommend restricting usage to your ends, which is where most breakage and split ends occur anyway.” Especially relevant, repetitive use will fade color-treated hair. The DIY summer hair mask is as follows.
Combine two tablespoons of liquid coconut oil with 10 drops of each of the other oils and stir well.
Next, apply the oil blend to the ends of your hair and let it set for 10 – 20 minutes before shampooing.
Step 3
To finish, condition and style as normal and repeat once a week for best results.
This recipe makes enough for three weeks of treatment (depending on hair length and thickness). Store in an airtight jar in a dark place. While the refrigerator is a great storage area, it’ll cause the mixture to thicken. Hence, you’ll need to zap it for 30 seconds in the microwave to melt it down again.
