Edgy Pixie: Add Texture to a Popular Hair Trend

The edgy pixie is a younger, modern take on a popular hair trend. The hairstyle was made current thanks to actresses Kaley Cuoco and Kristen Stewart. Add texture with the following tips as styled on Kristen Stewart at the movie premiere of Still Alice.

Welcome to Tuesday’s How-to column from Ask the Pro Stylist. I didn’t see any hair disasters this weekend, so unfortunately, didn’t write up Monday’s Hair Police piece.

Kristen Stewart recently chopped her long Twilight locks in favor of a shorter style. Her edgy pixie has been seen on various red carpets. Back in November Stewart had texture and height for the premiere of Still Alice, and yet gave the short cut an elegant flare at the 18th Annual Film Awards.

Kristen Stewart changed up the edgy pixie for a sleek look.

Giannandrea, Macadamia Professional’s International Creative Director, created Kristen Stewart’s edgy pixie for the movie premiere. The details, as seen in BTC.com, are outlined below using hairstyling tools from Macadamia Professional.

To be completely forthright and honest, I haven’t sampled Macadamia Hair Care for quite some time. When the brand first launched I loved the products, and promoted it like crazy. About a year later, the company expanded tremendously, and when I stopped by their booth at IBSNY to say hello, the staff was utterly rude, sad too, because I truly liked the hair care. Now it seems the website is revamped, so good for Macadamia for expanding to new heights and stepping on us little people that helped it to grow.

(Because I don’t like the attitude of the brand, I won’t detail the product list used. However, interested parties can visit BehindTheChair.com.

  1. Wet the hair and apply a good amount of Foaming Volumizing Mousse to the whole head.
  2. Create a deep side part, combing the hair up from the back to create a pompadour effect.

  3. Using a large round brush, blow-dry the top layer of the hair to give it extra volume and lift.

  4. Smooth the sides back with Healing Oil Spray to make them sleek and tight.
  5. Once the whole head is dry, use a quarter-sized amount of Detailing Cream and run it with your hands throughout the entire top of the head to create a heavy texture. Flat iron just the ends for the pixie’s slight edge.
  6. Finish with Control Spray to set the look in place.
