Faded Lavender Hair Color Ages the Wearer, in my Professional Opinion

Lavender hair color rant: Ladies, in my professional opinion I am sorry to report that faded lavender hair color is just not attractive and adds unnecessary years to a young woman’s looks, especially when it is bordering on a silver/gray tone.

Please allow this slightly subjective hair color rant. I never claim to believe I am above any other human being in the looks department, however, one thing I pride myself on is being put together, especially when I have to be in public, representing my field of beauty.

I love hair color, and am particularly fond of the bold, bright and beautiful neons and pastels available that the younger generation of women has been sporting, and some seasoned ladies as well. But, to strip the entire head of hair to a silver color and then add lilac or lavender, not only fades at an extremely rapid rate, it also ages the wearer, dulling the skin’s appearance. Now, why would a young, twenty something year old woman want to look like she is in her sixties just from donning a faded lavender hair color.

I am speaking of a recent media event I attended where the press was comprised of all beauty writers and bloggers. It really doesn’t matter what we look like in the comfort of our workstations hidden behind a laptop screen, but when we attend an event full of PR people, it behooves the writer to walk the walk of beauty, not just talk the talk, at the very least, being somewhat put together with makeup, groomed hair and fitting attire. We should take ourselves seriously while also taking the advice we profess to our readers.

A young woman attended this same event I was fortunate enough to participate in and from behind, she looked like a lady in her sixties. Her medium length hair had the consistency of cotton candy and was a faded lavender hair color, almost silver. Because her unnatural hue caught my eye, I stared until she turned and I could see she had a young face, one of a girl in her mid twenties.

Using the bold colors of the rainbow or pastels require a great deal of maintenance if the hair color is not made of extensions, as they have a much more rapid fade rate than standard professional hair dye. Silver hair belongs on the elderly, and even then I say dye, dye, and dye those grays to never reveal one’s true age. Please take no offense, this is just my professional opinion. I am sure people have ripped me a new one on an off day as well.

Kelly Osbourne made this faded lavender hair color popular not too long ago, however, even with stylists at one’s disposal, rocking this look is not easy, as Ozzy’s daughter has been spotted looking like a zombie at times.

My point dear readers is this, a look should be representative of the field you work in. And, just because a celebrity looks good in a specific hair color, doesn’t mean that same shade will work for you.
