Fashion Colors From The Box: NO

Fashion colors from the box are a definite NO, landing on this week’s Hair Police from Ask the Pro Stylist.

Happy Monday gorgeous and welcome to Ask the Pro Stylist’s Hair Police. This week’s offender is fashion colors from the box from brands such as L’Oréal Paris seen above.

The problem, as with all box color, is the user is not applying the color properly. And if you are an avid reader of this column, you are aware of the countless reasons I have posted as to why I hate box hair color.

This past weekend a guest had a haircut on the clinic floor by one of the future professionals. Everyone raved about her color, which she proudly boasted was one of the fashion colors from the box she does herself.

However, as I checked the haircut, I could see bands of uneven color placement and a multitude of colors within the hair from what was most likely a patchy application. While the outer color was pretty, this improper way of applying color will only lead to damaged hair because it will continuously be placed over already dyed hair. This will also give way to a darker hue than what she wants, as the fashion colors from the box will layer over one another. All in all it is just bad…. visit the damn salon already and stop trying to be a professional.

I showed this video to a color class I recently taught. They understood why he did not reach the color on the box, but most laymen will not, which is why fashion colors from the box have been issued a violation by the Hair Police. However, I will not divulge the information here because professionals, or future professionals will know the answer. Until next week, happy styling!
