Happy Hump Day
Whoop, whoop, it’s Hump Day, and time for another weekly Q&A with Ask the Pro Stylist. If your French gel manicure is constantly suffering from “work-related trauma” i.e., hair color stains; the following suggestions will help keep your nail service intact. However, I will add that professional stylists that do hair color do not get a French gel manicure. But more on this later. This week’s reader has a question to keep her white bright.
Laurie Wants the 411 for French Gel Manicure Maintenance
“I do wear gloves when washing out dye. But, just fixing my hair and my French gel manicure…the white doesn’t look as bright? Thanks, Laurie.
My Immediate Response to Laurie’s Query
HI Laurie,
Thanks for writing. I honestly do not have an answer for you. It could be the brand or the shade of white the nail tech uses. The only other suggestion I have is rubbing hand sanitizer over your nails and using a nail brush to clean underneath. These might help. Good luck.
French Gel Manicure Facts and Hair Color Removal
- Hairstylists know to wear gloves when they wash out hair color.
- They also have fitted gloves to keep their hands protected.
- In addition, a hairstylist currently working would never get a French manicure when they know they have color clients. Because, we know even with the best precautions, our nails will get stains.
- Hairstylists who color frequently wear dark colors or black nail polish to hide the stains.
- The color wasn’t washed out completely.
Laurie is Not a Hairstylist
Therefore, if the reader is a hairstylist, she would be aware of these facts. My best suggestion is to have your hair done in a salon by a salon professional, Then, voila, no hair color stains to ruin your gel manicure.
Suggestions to Keep Your French Gel Manicure White Bright
- Use a nailbrush in the shower.
- Try a mixture of baking soda and dish detergent.
- Dip isopropyl alcohol on a cotton ball and apply to stains.
- Rub petroleum jelly on the nails.
- Apply non-gel toothpaste to the stained areas.
- Wear tight gloves when washing out hair color.
- Hand sanitizer will also help.
Lavender Spring Nails
Yes, I am a stylist. And yes, my nails are lavender. However, I am currently not working so the picture of my hands above are not effected by hair color. Trust that if I were in the salon, they would not be that color. Maybe my toes would, or if I was on vacation, but now while working. BTW: I no longer receive gel manicures. In my opinion, they are not healthy for your nails.
