Get Kelly Ripa’s Wavy Celebrity Hairstyle for the Holidays

Get the Kelly Ripa wavy celebrity hairstyle, perfect for the holidays, in this Wednesday’s edition of Ask the Pro Stylist.

Woot Woot! Happy Hump Day! Welcome to Ask the Pro Stylist where I attempt to answer hair, beauty and nail questions. It is one week until Christmas! Have you finished all of your shopping? I haven’t, but I still believe Santa will bring all I need. I have to say though; holiday stress has inundated my brain and affected my work. I am looking forward to Christmas Day when I get to spend it with my parents, children and husband.

This week I answer a reader who would like to replicate Kelly Ripa’s wavy celebrity hairstyle.

I have short hair but would love the little wavy thing Kelly Ripa does to her hair. How do I get that – I have lots of layers. It’s not a bob, but pretty close

Kelly Ripa, and a few other celebrities like Jennifer Aniston have brought the bob back to life. Although I am not a fan of the bob in general, I like the current edition of a jagged look, akin to a bob with an edge. Kelly Ripa has been seen wearing her celebrity hairstyle straight or with a bit of a bend. I will attempt to describe how to recreate Kelly Ripa’s wavy look, but without an illustration or a video.

  • Use a volume lifting styling product to add fullness when drying or after with a product such as Big Sexy Hair Powder Play.
  • Blow dry with your fingers and then lift the hair at the root with a large round or paddle brush.
  • Section the hair. It is easier to curl your own head, especially in the back if it is in sections.
  • Start the curls at the nape.
  • With a medium-sized barreled iron, wrap one-inch sections vertically, but not to the scalp, leave about an inch of leeway and direct the curl away from the face. If using a curling iron with a clasp, wrap the hair outside and around the wand, with loose ends.
  • Use the fingers to loosen the curls when you are done with a touch of a moldable paste or wax rubbed throughout the palms. I love Kenra’s Platinum Working Wax.
  • And voila, a head full of waves like Kelly Ripa.

I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to use the right products. If your stylist recommends something, then use it. If you refuse and insist on not following the professionals’ recommendations, then do not question why your hair looks or feels the way it does. Hairstylists suggest what they know work.

If you have a beauty, hair or nails question that you would like to see featured here on a Wednesday, please email me at DeirdreAHaggerty@gmail.com. Tune in on Friday for my featured favorite beauty product of the week.

And, as a reminder, next week and the following week’s Q&A falls on Christmas and New Year’s Day and I will be making merry. Have a beautiful, blessed and joyful Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Happy Styling!
