Giuliana Rancic’s Dye Job Run Over By Hair Police

Giuliana Rancic’s dye job just got run over by the Hair Police as one of the biggest crocks of bullshit and false advertising to ever emerge from celebrity endorsements. As someone responsible for reporting on fashion, the TV personality failed with her recent promotion for Vidal Sassoon Salonist “professional” grade, at-home hair color kit, and it really pissed me off.

Unless you just couldn’t give a rat’s ass, the 87th Annual Academy Awards aired Sunday night. On Thursday the PR team for Vidal Sassoon Salonist sent me a press kit for the new at-home hair color that is of a “professional” quality with Giuliana Rancic as the celebrity endorser, just in time for Oscar Sunday. The firm must have released a mass email, not realizing that not only am I a beauty writer, but also a salon professional.

Now, I cannot fault them for that, but I held onto the information, hemming and hawing about publishing it, always knowing I would not give it a good review, because as my readers are aware, I DESPISE BOX HAIR COLOR. So, on Sunday I did a little research about Giuliana Rancic’s dye job, and I hit the ceiling.

Why did Giuliana Rancic’s dye job send me reeling over the edge? Vidal Sassoon has succumbed to the marketing bullshit like Schwarzkopf and advertised a professional brand for the home. Professionals constantly battle to keep clients in the salon daily, not to mention the amount of color correction that has to happen from poorly applied box colors. Brilliant idea for the professional brands; let’s market an at-home product, keep money flowing into the company, but fuck the salon and the hairstylists/colorists.

As the host of Fashion Police, Rancic should have known better with the amount of stylists that surround the show, especially during red carpet season. She also has enough money to regularly visit a salon for proper color upkeep. People who use box hair color do not, but have alternatives in the salon to have great color and protect the integrity of the hair.

When Giuliana Rancic’s dye job went public Thursday, she was spotted Friday promoting her new clothing line with noticeably darker, shinier hair, a significant difference from the Vidal Sassoon Salonist video the 40-year-old shot. Adding insult to injury is the fact the media has called her a red head when she used Medium Gold Brown, a fact she posted on Instagram. Her new color for the Oscars seems more the shade now, after, what could only be presumed was a color correct by a salon pro.

And lastly, as if her or her team actually read my rant on Examiner.com (linked in the first paragraph), as if, Giuliana Rancic didn’t say boo when asked about her new color on the red carpet pre-shows. She said she went darker, but not once did she mention Vidal Sassoon Salonist.

Guiliana Rancic’s dye job was an epic fail and shame on Vidal Sassoon and Rancic for plugging the new product so close to Oscar night. You’d have to be blind not to notice the big difference, which didn’t happen with a box of hair color for under $10.
