I had exclusive backstage access this past October in Las Vegas at the Silverton Hotel’s Veil Theater for Battle of the Strands 2014. Dubbed the “World Cup of Beauty,” hairstylists, nail technicians, stylists and makeup artists from around the globe competed in the total beauty and fashion competition, which has many phases and elimination rounds. The finals crowned a student winner and a professional: one, which is revealed below, and the other that will be announced when the four episodes of Global Beauty Masters air on Discovery Fit and Health, beginning tonight.

Educational courses were offered and taught by internationally renowned professionals as the world of beauty gathered in Las Vegas. And prior to the professional competition, seen tonight on Global Beauty Masters, press and media were treated to a pamper party.

According to Lisa Marie Garcia, BOTS judge for the student competition and Vice President of Shows and Education for Farouk Systems Inc., the students are scored upon on hair, nails, wardrobe, team spirit, and the presentation of the entire concept, (in the students’ case it was Avant-Anime). Within those categories the judges look for workmanship, creativity, and the execution.
