Greaser Hair: What Products Create The Best Greaser Hair
Greaser hair is in style for shows, 70-year-old men, Halloween, and fans of The Deuce. Just Kidding. To be honest, I am not sure why today’s reader wants greaser hair. However, Ask the Pro Stylist is on the job to help in this week’s Q&A.
Hump Day
Whoop, whoop it’s Hump Day (said no unemployed person ever)! Since today is Wednesday, it is also time for another Q&A with Ask the Pro Stylist. Bruce, a reader, wants to know the best product to create greaser hair.
Greaser Hair Question
What products can I use to get that wet greaser look as seen in the movie Grease? I tried lots of things. But, I can’t find the look I’m looking for – the 1950 greaser look! Can you help?
Answer
Ok, so sorry for the delay. While I am not sure why you want the greaser look, I think I can help. However, it is somewhat necessary to know the reason as the result depends on the length of your hair. But, I’ll do my best – wink, wink!
My dad had greaser hair. In fact, he wore that look well into the 1980s until I became a stylist and brought him current. Now he just has short hair – perfect for a man in his late 70s.
So, here’s the 411 as to why I want to know the reason. The truth is, to create the optimal Pompadour and DA (Duck’s ASS) – the official titles of “’greaser hair,” you do require a bit of length. Short hair just won’t cut it!
How-to
Go back to the beginning Bruce – back when greaser hair was popular. New gels make the hair crunchy. You need a gel that has a strong hold, but will keep it looking wet as well. Try Clubman Styling Gel or Dippity Do. Unless they changed their formulas, one of these should do the job.
Blow dry your hair back with a round brush to create volume. Think zipper head meets 80s moms. Then, grease it up with the gel. Add a strong hold styling spray to set the wet look and hold the style.
