Hair Care Recommendations For Coarse, Dry Hair
In need of hair care recommendations for coarse, dry hair? A reader was, and after a few emails back and forth to narrow down the condition of her hair, Ask the Pro Stylist has a few suggestions for coarse, color-treated hair.
It’s Hump Day, whoop, whoop, and welcome to Ask the Pro Stylist’s Wednesday Q&A where I attempt to answer readers’, guests’, or students’ hair, beauty or nails questions. This week Stephanie, a reader, wanted hair care recommendations for coarse, dry hair.
What product do you recommend for coarse hair when air drying so that it doesn’t look so dry?
Unable to confirm the exact texture and condition of her hair, I asked her a few questions to offer her my best hair care recommendations. Stephanie responded her hair is “lumpy, not straight, and dries frizzy.” It is thick, and blonde/brown with highlights/lowlights completed every 4-1/2 weeks.
My hair care recommendations for coarse and dry, color-treated include all of the products within the Paul Mitchell Awapuhi Wild Ginger Mirror Smooth Collection, or leave-in conditioners such as Alterna Bamboo Beach Summer Sun Recovery Spray, a smoothing cream like Redken’s Frizz Dismiss FPF 40 Rebel Tame and a gloss, preferably Paul Mitchell Awapuhi, or CHI Argan Oil (my favorite).
I would also suggest going a bit longer in between color services. It isn’t necessary to have highlights put in once a month. Every three months is recommended, with just a regrowth touch-up in between. But again, having not seen her hair first hand, it is impossible to know without a thorough in-person consultation to determine if that is actually the service she is receiving. Nonetheless, these products will create a shine and leave the hair looking healthy.
