Hair Color Advice: Would Lilac-Silver Hair Color Work on Dark Skin?

Hair Color Advice: Would Lilac-Silver Hair Color Work on Dark Skin?

Hair color advice is once again tackled for this Wednesday’s reader question.

Happy Hump Day beauty lovers and hair aficionados and welcome to another edition of Ask the Pro’s beauty and hair care advice. Today’s question comes from a reader with a brown complexion who would like hair color advice in turning hers to a lilac-silver.

Hi, I wanted to ask for your opinion on a color I have been thinking about dying my hair. I’m dark skin, as in African American dark skin, a NW48 in MAC Foundation. Anyways, I would like to dye my hair color silver with a lilac tint to it. Would it look good on me?

Thanks for writing in Ashley. That is a great question. I am honestly not a fan of the lilac-silver hair color because I think it washes out the skin color making people look older. However, with your darker complexion, I actually feel your tone could support it and would look great.

I do have two suggestions to offer. Please don’t color your hair at home, have a licensed professional change your hair color. And secondly, play with the hair color like Rihanna, who has just donned a wig or hair extensions of multi-colored black, silver and blue in the above photograph. See if you can find a wig or temporary hair extensions with the hair color you want to test it first, before dying it lilac-silver.

I hope that has helped!
