Hair Color Mistakes to Avoid

Hair color mistakes occur all the time, in the salon and at home. But the Hair Police found a hideous color dip job that matched a woman’s clothing, and I do hope it wasn’t intentional (matching the hair to the clothes.)

Happy Monday and Happy New Year my dear readers and welcome to Ask the Pro Stylist’s Hair Police piece. Since most offenses are noticed on the weekend, the day seemed fitting to provide a hopefully humorous take on hair don’ts. Today focuses on hair color mistakes to avoid, and this is a doozy.

We are back to work and school, but my little guy had a case of the missing mommy stomach bug today and lasted about 2 hours before I got a call from the nurse. It’s rough to go back after 2 weeks off.

As I prepped for the week of back-to-school on Sunday, I shopped at my local BJ’s with my husband and stopped dead in my tracks when I saw this young woman that sported one of the worst hair mistakes. I followed her around the store until I could get a clear enough photo without revealing her identity.

I’m not sure where her blazing red roots and black ends were done. It could have been at home or a salon. These hair color mistakes happen by professionals too, wanting to please clients in the hopes they won’t try it at home and possibly make it worse.

But this hair color matched her checkerboard red and black flannel. Girlfriend was flaunting her locks around the store wearing dark shades indoors on a rainy day, and you know, she thought she looked hot.

Ombre hair color is years out of style now, with most colorists opting for the sun kissed balayage technique, and as marsala has taken over for Color of the Year 2015, fire engine reds will fade out into more natural wine-looking gingers. So take heed ladies, ditch the dipped hair. No one is saying don’t have fun with color; just ombre lines that don’t blend are hair color mistakes all should avoid now.

Visit me next week to see if you’ve committed some hideous hair violation such as this Monday’s hair color mistakes. Until then, happy styling!
