Hair Maintenance 101: Simple Hair Care Suggestions
Hair maintenance 101 is for those that believe their hair looks fab, but cannot see what it looks like from behind. Sorry folks because Ask the Pro Stylist’s Hair Police has spotted your tresses and has a few simple suggestions to care for the hair.
Happy Monday beautiful, and welcome to this week’s Hair Police piece. I once again noticed a few violations while in church, which made my children laugh because my palms began to itch, and I desperately wanted to cut the offenders’ hair.
So perhaps the term offender is harsh, but there really is no excuse for improper hair maintenance. We don’t have to be made up to the nines, but the hair does require a certain degree of care to remain healthy.
The first woman was over 60 with long black hair to her buttocks. I am not one to tell aging women to cut their hair a certain length. However, long straight hair gives the appearance of pulling down the skin, creating a look that adds years, not takes them away. But it wasn’t the style or the multiple shades of white roots and black and brown hair color throughout (clearly evident of box dye) that bothered me. It was the apparent lack of hair maintenance that was seen via broken and split ends that were more than 3-inches long. This woman hadn’t had a haircut in quite some time.
The next Hair Police victim was a girl that sat about 7 pews from me, but even within that distance, I could see her hair was ravaged by chlorine. Of course the child is innocent, she just had a blast swimming this summer. However, the mother should be aware of all the wonderful ways to rid the hair of chlorine after a season of pool activities. The chlorine will not leave with simple shampooing, but requires removal or the hair will look green and feel slippery, yet brittle when dry.
Hair maintenance doesn’t have to be costly. If money is an object, visit your nearest Cactus Academy Paul Mitchell Partner School for affordable haircuts from future professionals with amazing talent. Conditioning treatments are also available. Many salons offer chlorine removal, which could also be done at home with Malibu C. And after every dip in the pool, rinse the head with hose water.
At the very least, proper hair maintenance requires trims every 2-3 months to avoid breakage and split ends. Visit next week for more hair care advice from Ask the Pro Stylist.
