Holiday Beauty: Hair, Nails and Makeup
Happy holiday beauty! This Tuesday focuses on overall holiday beauty with a hair, nails and makeup guide to look gorgeous this season. There are also holiday beauty tips for the over 40 crowd included within the makeup tutorial.
We are in the thick of it now. Holiday madness has dawned. The Facebook bitching commenced and the last-minute shopping frenzy is underway.
Amid all the mayhem, Ask the Pro Stylist has a gift for my readers, holiday beauty guides for hair, nails and makeup as part of this Tuesday’s how-to. The first tutorial begins with a Hollywood/holiday makeup step-by-step from Bobbi Brown.
Holiday Beauty: Makeup by Bobbi Brown
- Smooth, hydrate and prep skin.
- Layer Corrector and Creamy Concealer under eye circles and even out skin with NEW Skin Foundation Stick, using a foundation brush to apply. Over 40 tip: As you look in the mirror, tilt your head down, creating shadows on the face. Use the concealer on the darker areas before applying foundation for a smooth, overall finish.
- Lightly dust Medium Bronzing powder on face, neck and chest for a warm glow.
- Smile, and apply blush on the apple of your cheek and brush back towards the hairline and down to blend.
- Apply lip balm, then Bordeaux lip color, line with Sangria Lip Pencil and finish with Hollywood Red Lip Gloss. Over 40 tip: Make sure the teeth are whitened before attempting a bold red lip and a lip primer to prevent feathering into tiny lines.
- Define and fill in brows, prime lids with Long-Wear Eye Base.
- Apply Sweep Flesh Eye Shadow on the entire lid, and then layer Beige Eye Shadow and Golden Pink Metallic Eye Shadow on the lower lid. Over 40 tip: Metallic is fine, just use sparingly.
- Line the upper lash line only with Gel Eyeliner and followed by Rich Caviar Eye Shadow.
- Finish with a few coats of mascara. Get the complete holiday beauty tutorial and coordinating makeup for Kate Upton’s Holiday Look from Bobbi Brown.
Holiday Beauty: Nails for Hanukkah by Shannon of Seriously Nails
- Shannon of Seriously nails suggest first painting a French tip with white nail polish. Essie Marshmallow is popular in nail salons for this step.
- Next, with blue acrylic paint and a fine, fine, brush, make an upside down triangle in the center of the nail just above the lowest part of the smile line on your French tip.
- Then, draw a right side up triangle over top of your first one
- Apply a coat of OPI Snow Globetrotter from the Gwen Stefani Holiday Collection. Make sure to concentrate the bulk of this polish at the top of the nail so you don’t cover your Star of David with glitter!
- Seal with a good top coat like Designer Series Top Coat from OPI or Seche Vite.
Holiday Beauty: Retro Hollywood Hair
Natalie Dormer who plays Cressida in The Hunger Games looked très chic at the premiere of Mockingjay Part 1 in November. The following hair tutorial comes from Behind the Chair, courtesy of Macadamia Professional’s International Creative Directer Giannandrea, using Macadamia Professional Styling Products.
- Start with damp hair and apply Macadamia Professional’s Foaming Volumizer to the whole head, from roots to ends.
- Next, create a deep, side part.
- Then blow-dry the hair in large sections, creating ample volume all around the head.
- Along the front hairline, blow the hair backward for high, extra face-framing volume.
- Set side and back waves in place using a 1-inch curling iron. Make sure to spray each section with Macadamia Professional Control Working Spray.
- Curl the waves at the front part of the hair, close to the face, a bit tighter and work your way down the length. The back part is only rounder at the bottom.
- At this point, brush the hair downward to soften the waves. Then add extra shine and smoothness by running a dime-sized amount of Macadamia Professional’s Healing Oil Treatment throughout the length of the hair with your hands.
- To define the part and smooth it, brush the hair and set the waves with Macadamia Professional’s Control Working Spray, while holding the style in place with clips.
- After a few minutes, take the clips out and spray the hair one more time.
I sincerely hope my holiday beauty guide provided you with a little pause during this busy time of year. Visit next Tuesday for a New Year’s Eve hairstyle how-to. Until then, Happy Styling, Happy Hanukkah and have a blessed and Merry Christmas.
