This week Ask the Pro Stylist answers questions about at-home bikini wax tips and offers some advice on how to keep ingrown hairs at bay and have a happy hooha.
It’s Hump Day! Whoop Whoop! Welcome to another edition of Ask the Pro Stylist’s beauty questions answered. This week’s query comes from a do-it-yourselfer who prefers to complete most of her beauty regimen at home, despite numerous emails back and forth attempting to get her to head to a salon and spa. Alisha needs bikini waxing tips; she waxes her pelvic area in the privacy of her house and likes it that way, but wants to know the best product to use on her sensitive vagina and how to keep those pesky ingrown hairs from developing.
There were too many lengthy emails from Alisha to post here, however the gist of her question is above. She is a non-licensed, non-professional, self-proclaimed beauty expert who wants, no, insists upon performing services, specifically a bikini wax, to herself at home.
Now, readers of this beauty blog are fully aware that I would never, EVER, endorse DIY salon services at home and my answer is always to head to a salon and/or spa. This was not the answer the reader was looking for, so after diligent persuasion, I advised her to use GiGi All Purpose Honee Wax Microwave Formula affordably priced at B.S.O, Beauty Stop Online, for her at-home bikini wax needs. GiGI also manufactures bikini wax for sensitive skin.
However, I did so with the following guidelines.
- Microwave at 30-second intervals until melted, yet at a comfortable temperature and test the bikini wax on the wrist first, prior to applying to vagina. (gently blow on the stick)
- Discard all applicators after use. Do NOT reuse!
- Work from the front of the vagina to the anus, leaving the rear last to avoid a yeast infection.
- Use talc to prep the area and remove excess bikini wax after, not baby oil as this will clog the pores and create ingrown hairs.
Alisha also wanted to know how to keep the ingrown hairs at bay when doing a bikini wax. It should be noted that some folks are prone to ingrown hairs more than others. To have a healthy hooha and keep a Brazilian bikini wax smooth longer, exfoliate the vagina every time you shower, either with an exfoliating cleanser or loofah, or both.
I do wax my own area, but it is not easy, and I have to do so in a locked room, in front of a wide mirror with an old towel on the floor. Caution should always be adhered to when attempting a bikini wax at home. Keep the hot wax away from the most sensitive areas. I cannot stress enough that it is best to have a bikini wax and/or full Brazilian completed in a spa by trained technicians.
