TGIF
TGIF (said no hairstylist, ever)! Except this stylist, thanks to Covid. This Friday’s Favorite from Ask the Pro Stylist delves deeper into microneedling, (pun intended,) for anti-aging skincare.
What is Microneedling?
Microneedling is a procedure done in a dermatologist’s office to boost collagen production for “smoother and firmer skin” with greater tone, according to Healthline.com. A dermaroller utilizes small needles to penetrate the skin on the face and neck. It will treat wrinkles, sagging skin, large pores and acne scars. It is safe. However, depending upon your tolerance of pain, some will experience more than others. I did not. As a consumer of laser hair removal, Botox, fillers and tattoos, the procedure did not bother me.
The Anti-Aging Procedure
A topical anesthetic is applied to numb the face and neck area. The procedure could take anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour. However, this depends on your needs. Your technician will discuss this with you and the amount of sessions necessary. I had one treatment with two passes over the upper part of my face, and three on the lower segment. My focus area is below with before and after photos one full week later.
Why Microneedling?
I am not ashamed to say over the past three years I use Botox (forehead), about every 4 months and Juvederm (cheeks) about once a year. During my last Botox treatment, my technician suggested trying GENIUS instead of fillers. It is slightly higher in price, but the results are more natural. (Speak to your dermatologist about what is best for you).
My Areas of Concern
While I have always been an advocate of beauty from within, gravity is persistent. Good genes are a plus, as is preventative anti-aging skin care. However, those sagging lines around my chin and lines above my mouth are irritating and unattractive. In addition, too much filler looks unnatural. Therefore, I tried GENIUS and I am very happy with the results.
Lutronic GENIUS
As the roller passes your skin, GENIUS uses radio frequency and microneedles to create a “micro-injury,” which “jumpstarts the skin’s healing process. Additionally, it stimulates collagen and elastin to improve the skin’s texture. Not only does my face feel and look tighter after only one week, it also has an increase in hydration. Apparently, results are long-lasting and can be seen up to six months later.
I Highly Recommend
I highly recommend Carmine for injectables and Krystal for the GENIUS procedure at Long Island Dermatology in Manhasset. Krystal was very gentle and thorough. Carmine is a big believer of “less is more” for fillers, as am I.
Happy Styling!
