Last-Minute Hair Appointment Bookers: Hair Police Got Ya

Last-minute hair appointment bookers are nothing new. We get it. Everyone’s lives are busy and sometimes we forget to make an appointment at the salon. However, sometimes, for those of us who work from home, we are inundated with that one person who feels because I, you, whomever cuts hair out of the home that we are on their clock, and call-ahead appointments aren’t necessary. Sorry, but the Hair Police is here to say, please, give your at-home stylist the same courtesy you’d give a salon, and understand they cannot always accommodate your forgetfulness or busy schedule.

Happy Monday Hotties! Welcome to Ask the Pro Stylist’s weekly Hair Police column. I was going to write about some of the terrible ombre looks I saw at the Kids’ Choice Awards or the iHeartRadio Music Awards, but decided to rant about last-minute hair appointment bookers.

Working from home is not an easy task. There is a lot of juggling and accommodating involved, and sometimes the rules of etiquette get blurred. Last-minute hair appointment bookers don’t bother my friend who also cuts hair at home; she just ignores the text or call. I try to accommodate all appointments, however with my writing and event schedule, my kids’ schedules, and other clients, I simply cannot always be at everyone’s beck and call.

The problem is, when you give in once, these people always think you are available at their whim. I had taken a woman and her daughter a few times for a last-minute hair appointment. For the second one for her daughter, she texted and asked if I was available in 10 minutes, to which I responded positively. Bad idea, because this last-minute appointment booker once again texted for another haircut on a day I was swamped with deadlines, and couldn’t commit. I responded back with no, gave an apology and a reason, then politely suggested a call-ahead appointment, especially at this time of year, which would be appreciated: two-weeks later no call or text for a haircut, and a Facebook delete.

So, last-minute hair appointment bookers, or any for that matter, when the urge strikes to contact your work-from-home stylist, ask yourself these questions/suggestions:

  1. Would a salon be open at this time/day?
  2. Do salons take bookings via Facebook messaging?
  3. When scheduling an appointment, offer a few days/times that you’d like.
  4. Don’t always expect last minute scheduling. Sometimes you will get lucky, and sometimes not.

Happy styling, until next Monday when the Hair Police catches you…wink, wink, hopefully not making a last-minute hair appointment.
