Limp Hair Remedy: Fall in Love with Dry Shampoo
Need a limp hair remedy? You do if the hair police saw you this past weekend! Dirty, limp, greasy, smelly hair is a pet peeve of mine, and it’s the one thing that makes me hold my breath at the shampoo bowl and turn the other way. Keep it clean folks with Ask the Pro Stylist’s limp hair remedy: my favorite dry shampoos or an alternative DIY mix with ingredients found around the home.
Happy Monday mavens of beauty, and welcome to Ask the Pro Stylist’s Hair Police review. So, it’s not Monday, but it is December, and my brains are mush thanks to the pending holidays.
Every Monday, or in this case Tuesday, I divulge a hair police violation. I’d rather see frizzy clean hair, than a greasy flat head of locks stuck to the scalp, which inevitably stinks to high heaven…usually of tobacco, grease and the night-before’s dinner. Blechh! You know you smell when I glob on the shampoo at the bowl before the water hits the head.
So, here is my limp hair remedy: fall in love with dry shampoo, please! My two favorites are Kerastase Powder Bluff Dry Shampoo and BioSilk’s Revive Dry Clean Shampoo.
Kerastase Powder Bluff Dry Shampoo is not cheap, but the best hair care products never are, so why skimp on fabulous. The fresh scent lingers all day and is not overpowering. It not only freshens the hair between washes, but it also extends the life of blowouts, keeps color fresh and adds bounce to flat hair. Because the hottest hair trend right now is texture, it makes all the sense in the world to use BioSilk Revive Dry Clean Shampoo, for all hair types, as a styling tool to create tousled beauty.
But, if you cannot afford pricey dry shampoos, try a DIY alternative as a limp hair remedy and hair refresher! Mercedes Parrilli, international hair artist for George the Salon Chicago, provieded a few tips for DIY dry shampoo with all-natural ingredients found around the home for all hair colors, and it smells delish.
“Making your own natural dry shampoo is inexpensive and you avoid hazardous chemicals,” says Parrilli of George the Salon,“when made at home, dry shampoo is fast acting and your hair will feel, look and smell amazing.” Mercedes suggests using dry shampoo the “second or third day of not washing your hair, which saves time while keeping your hair looking great.” However, the international artist warns not to skimp on regular shampoos, “It is also important to cleanse your scalp regularly. Cleansing the scalp keeps hair follicles stimulated for healthy hair growth.” And it keeps the hair police away!
DIY Dry Shampoo Ingredients
- Cornstarch
- Cocoa Powder (Brunettes)
- Unsweetened Cocoa Powder (Darker Brunettes)
- Cinnamon (Redheads and Gingers)
- Essential Oil (Blondes)
- Salt Shaker
- Large Cosmetic Brush
“Your cupboards hold everything you need to make your own dry shampoo,” Mercedes Parrilli informed, “which is more natural compared to baby powder and baking soda, and it is oil absorbing.” Mix equal parts cornstarch and the suggested scent suggested for your hair color. Blondes can choose any essential oil they prefer. To apply, shake the DIY dry shampoo mixture onto the scalp, massage in and then brush through.
Stop by next Monday to see if your violation has irritated the hair police (wink, wink), prompting a limp hair remedy or some other hair fix. Until then, happy styling!
