Lipstick Issues: How to Prevent Lipstick Bleed

Have lipstick issues? If you’d like to learn how to prevent lipstick bleed, Ask the Pro Stylist might just have the solution to fix your lipstick woes in this Wednesday’s Q&A.

Whoop, Whoop! Happy Hump Day beauties! Welcome to Wednesday’s Ask the Pro Stylist Q&A where I put my best foot forward to answer readers’, clients’ and friends’ beauty, hair and nail questions. This week focuses on lipstick issues, as messaged to me from Belinda on my Facebook page, Ask the Pro, specifically when the lipstick bleeds into tiny wrinkles. Yuck!

Do you have any makeup tips to prevent my lipstick bleed? I have tried every brand of lipstick, but as my lips and my face age, the lipstick bleeds into my tiny lines.

Yes, everyone ages differently, but if you smoke or were a smoker, you have undoubtedly noticed fine lines around your lips. Not only do the chemicals in the cigarettes age the skin, but also the pursing of the lips (sucking in and blowing out) causes wrinkles. So if you think smoking pot is not bad, think again as the skin will react the same and age that pretty, young ignorant little mouth. Also, drinking from a straw or any device that causes you to draw liquid with the lips will age your face.

So, what to do, except for not smoke or suck?

If the lines have emerged, there are cosmetic ways to dissipate wrinkles and eliminate fine lines that require the use of an esthetician, dermatologist and/or plastic surgeon. However, as lipstick bleed was the question of the day, and I seriously digressed, I shall offer a few ways to address this lip woe.

Try to outline the lips with eye concealer around the outside of the lip using a small lip brush. Then line the lips with a nude lip liner or one that matches the lip color you love.

A lip primer is very useful to prevent lip bleed or feathering, however some prefer not to have the added expense.

I prefer to condense my makeup bag and have fallen in love with lip stains, as I too suffer from ugly lip bleed. I recommend Makeup Forever’s Aqua Rouge lip stain, waterproof liquid lip color with intense gloss, or not, available at Sephora in 17 hot shades to choose from.
