Makeup Mistakes Most Women Make

Makeup mistakes could be seen every day on every woman. The reason is due to the fact that most women aren’t trained to understand eye and lip shapes, and the colors that complement each face. This week’s Hair Police column from Ask the Pro Stylist focuses on a few of the makeup mistakes most women make.

Happy Monday beautiful, and welcome to a late edition of this week’s Hair Police by Ask the Pro Stylist. The holidays have me bewitched and bamboozled, so mega apologies for missing out on publishing my favorite columns.

I love to search for epic makeup mistakes and hair fails as teaching tools for my students. While pulling up photos for holiday lip and eye lessons, I found a conglomerate of makeup mistakes amidst one face on pinterest. Of course the purpose of the photo was to pinpoint the most common cosmetic errors most women make.

Common Makeup Mistakes

Common Makeup Mistakes

The top makeup mistakes occur with poorly drawn eyeliner, too much eye shadow, over drawn lips, and of course an overabundance of the wrong shade of blush.

The lessons for budding hair and makeup professionals are too detailed to enlighten the masses, which is why it is always advisable to seek out professional advice rather than some whack job on YouTube that thinks they know!

The problem with these tutorials is while the makeup instruction might look good on the person, the probability of it failing on you is high. Why? Well, each individual owns a uniquely shaped eyelid; with their own beautifully shaped eyes, a fantastic shaped face, and an intriguing color combination that another person does not possess.

Beauty pros are not just aware of the simple tips and tricks to the perfect cat eye, but know how to make wings work on someone with a natural fold as compared to another with a heavy one or understand how to determine if someone is a winter or an autumn, and which shades work best to complement their tones and features. Simple blogs and vlogs do not offer such precise information.

So, how can the woman without a professional background in beauty understand the ins and outs of cosmetics and not suffer common makeup mistakes?

  1. Avoid makeup tutorials on YouTube, unless it is by a brand and targets a specified topic that fits your face.
  2. Visit a Color Me Beautiful salon for a color consultation.
  3. Less is always more, so when in doubt…go light.
  4. When utilizing a makeup counter, patronize the top brands, but search for an artist who is within your age range.
  5. Eyeliner should never go down, it creates a droopy eye and ages the face.
  6. If warm colors suit your skin, do not mix with cool tones and visa versa. However, neutral colors can mix and match with both.

Stop by next week for another Hair Police violation similar to this week’s common makeup mistakes most women make. Until then, happy styling!
