The Man’s Beauty Regimen: What Stats Say About Men’s Product Purchasing

The man’s beauty regimen is real. Surprisingly, many men purchase similar beauty products as women. As a mother of 4 boys, I found the following data from a recent survey extremely interesting, perfect for this Wednesday’s Q&A.

Whoop, whoop, it’s Hump Day beautiful and time for another Q&A with Ask the Pro Stylist. This week’s focus is on the man’s beauty regimen, a question from the folks in my own home.

Since I am a mother of 4 boys (a young man, 2 teens, and a tween) I see first hand the importance of the man’s beauty regimen. Because I am a hairstylist, I place a great emphasis on hair care. It is a fact that the men in my home prefer professional hair and beauty brands to their pharmacy counterparts. But, how do other men feel about beauty products in general?

Skinfo.com conducted a survey of more than 500 Americans to find out just how men and women approach their personal appearance. The graphic seen at the link above shows insights into the skincare products men and women are using. Additionally, it identifies certain beauty industry trends.

For instance, everything you thought you knew about gender and beauty stereotypes is wrong, including the man’s beauty regimen. Of note, sales of men’s beauty products are rising and here is why:

  • People that consider themselves most attractive without the use of beauty products end up spending the most on beauty products to enhance their appearance.
  • 70% of women and 50% of men report their spending would increase with more disposable income.
  • A greater percentage of men than women said they use beauty products because it’s “important for work.”

So gentleman, get out there and raise the bar on your skincare and hair care routine. Check out the links below for skincare recommendations.
