The Manscaping Trend: Are You a Hairless Hottie?
The manscaping trend recently came to the forefront in a household full of teenage boys. Not having girls, as a mother of four males, I never thought I’d have the how-to shave your underarms and other areas of your body discussion with my sons, let alone get annoyed that boys’ pubes inundate my Venus razor. So today Ask the Pro Stylist reviews my own recent dilemma of male body hair removal.
Whoop, whoop, happy Hump Day hotties! Welcome to Ask the Pro Stylist where I answer readers, clients and friends’ beauty, nails or hair related questions every Wednesday. Well, this week I reveal a recent, uncomfortable tutorial I had to have with my sons about manscaping. I always wanted a girl so that I could do her hair, teach her makeup, and take her to dance class, go shopping and eventually go over body hair removal. That was until I had boys, four of them, and realized I was created to mother males; it’s in my core, part of my instincts, it is who I am.
Then my boys grew older and in their quest for superstardom, I found myself carting them to dance classes, dance competitions, and full-time dance education, sans the tutus of course, for three of the four. As they grew larger, so did the need for full body manscaping, because male dancers are hairless.
But full manscaping is not relegated to male dancers. On Tuesday morning Billy Bush revealed to Elvis Duran and the Morning Show that it’s 2014, and he doesn’t have a bush during his interview with Kit Hoover of Access Hollywood. (The attached clip is edited, so you’ll just have to take my word for it.)
Let’s rewind to the night before my 14-year-old begins a full day of dance at his new performing arts high school. For about a week my child requested to use my razor or have me buy him a new one. (I know the two older ones have sneaked mine in the past.) I couldn’t find a suitable one for his virgin armpits, so I suggested he and the 17-year-old purchase Nair. To my surprise they found Nair for Men Hair Remover Body Cream for body, chest, arms, legs and back, and texted me a picture asking if this was ok. I had no idea Nair had joined the manscaping trend, and I was thrilled.
The two middle boys used it, and so did the oldest, but not without a flurry of silly questions and a shower drain full of pubic hair. The hair removal for men is not recommended for private areas, not that a hairless region isn’t preferred. There is nothing more annoying than that one stray hair floating aimlessly in the mouth.
To manscape the genital region, wax or laser with someone experienced in hair removal of that specific area, or shave with a gentle woman’s razor such as Venus, just don’t use your mom’s, wife’s or girlfriend’s razor, Yuck!
