Men’s Hair Color Gone Wrong: Hair Police
Men’s hair color, especially when done at home, and on short hair, could go terribly wrong. The hair police spotted a man on the LIRR that looked as if his child outlined his head in Sharpie: total men’s hair color fail!
Welcome to Monday’s hair review of the weekend. As a stylist, and other professionals can attest, I have eye problems. I inadvertently stare at roots, hairstyles, cuts and colors. It’s a gift and a curse.
While riding the rails on Thursday the hair police spotted a man asleep. Poor guy! I snapped the photo, but blurred out his features so no one recognizes him. His violation: Men’s Hair Color Gone Wrong. because Sharpie is not a hair color.
I sincerely hope a colorist didn’t dye this dude’s hair. His head looked like a helmet, which at anytime could be removed. This is one of the reasons I do not advocate coloring hair at home.
To avoid being a victim of epic men’s hair color fails, Ask the Pro Stylist has a few suggestions to look young, yet not foolish. Ladies, if your man isn’t reading this, send him a few subtle hints. Sometimes men that bald, thin or gray early are much more sensitive than women.
First and foremost don’t try this at home. Visit a licensed professional. There is nothing wrong with men coloring their hair, but do it right. If it’s discretion you want, call the salon and ask if they have a private room.
You might have had luscious dark brunette locks in your youth, but Elvis black is not a good look for men or women as they age. Skin grays as well, and an extreme dark black men’s hair color makes ashen skin more noticeable, and therefore adds years rather than takes it away. Go a little lighter than your natural color, especially if the gray surrounds your hairline. But not too light, which is why you want to see a colorist who will cover your gray, make it appear as if it is your natural color and as a result, you will look younger.
