Whoop, whoop, it’s Hump Day, and time for another weekly Q&A with Ask the Pro Stylist. If you consistently suffer from nail stains, i.e. hair color, the following suggestions will help keep your nails in tip-top shape.

Josie, a reader, wants to know how to remove nail stains. However, when asked what stained them, no answer was my reply. Therefore, I have regurgitated an old response regarding the same topic.

Removing hair color stains from gel nails is a hot topic for beauty professionals that keep well-polished nails while working in a salon. So, how do you remove hair color stains from natural and artificial nails?

To begin, always where gloves when applying, removing and washing out hair color. In addition, use a nail brush in the shower or apply hand sanitizer ASAP. Also, try a mixture of baking soda and dish detergent, isopropyl alcohol on a cotton ball, petroleum jelly, or non-gel toothpaste.

However, if the nail stains are yellow they could be from smoking, or old or crappy nail polish. In that case then dish the cigs or buy better polish. If the nail bed is yellow, then I would visit a doctor as this could indicate illness.
