Remember, to have neat and clean partings. Additionally, keep your section less than the width of the roller. In between the bumps of the roller is fine. In addition, keep your subsections the diameter of your roller. Use it to measure if need be. You won’t lose points. Keep the hair neat and smooth around the roller.

Starting at the hairline, the first roller is on-base. Hold the hair at a 45-degree angle away from you and roll toward the scalp. Next, secure at the base with a clip.

The second roller is half-off base. Hold the hair up straight at a 90-degree angle. Roll toward the scalp and secure at the base with a clip. Be mindful not to fasten on any hair from the first roller.

The third and final roller is completely off-base. Hold the hair at a 45-degree angle toward you and roll toward the scalp.

Make sure all three rollers are wound away from the face. After the examiner has checked your work set up for the permanent wave procedure.

In conclusion, remember that on-base roller placement is for full-volume, half-off for medium volume and off-base is for the least amount of volume. In addition, use only your tail comb for the NYS Cosmetology State Board roller placement. And use your beige rollers. Hair must be wound at least 1.5 times around the roller.
