Pedicure Pricing: You Get What You Pay For

Yes, when considering pedicure pricing, you do get what you pay fore. While everyone likes a deal, some services should not be cheap. Therefore, put some thought into your next salon visit.

Happy Monday beautiful, and welcome to Ask the Pro Stylist’s weekly industry rant, The Hair Police. This week we take a closer look at pedicure pricing.

For those unaware, Ask the Pro Stylist’s Hair Police is a weekly commentary on the ills in the beauty industry. As a professional stylist, beauty educator, and current salon coordinator, I come across some wonderful and bewildering moments. Most recently, my own toes have been on the proverbial chopping block. Hence, today’s feature of pedicure pricing.

I frequent a local, corner nail spa for its affordability and timeliness. However, I have not been happy as of late. My nail polish chips within 2 weeks of receiving a pedicure.

When discussing my nail polish dilemma with an experienced technician, she wondered why I continue at this establishment. You see my nails are in need of repair from damage due to extensive fills and filing. Additionally, as seen above, my pedicures don’t last.

As a courtesy, this nail tech changed my polish and reshaped my toenails. Apparently, my shapes were not consistent. Some were square while others were round.

Had I spent more time paying attention to the details of my feet rather than pedicure pricing, I would have noticed. Since money is a genuine issue for most middle class/lower income families, we tend to overlook the quality of the service.

For instance, many would rather spend money on box dye rather than visit a salon. In addition, some cut their own hair or frequent salons/spas for the affordability rather than the substance. In cheaper locations continuing education is nonexistent. As a result workers lack experience and new techniques. The moral of the story, you get what you pay for.
