Repair Hair Damage With Advice From Ask the Pro Stylist
Repair hair damage with advice from Ask the Pro Stylist. This Wednesday’s Q&A is from a reader who needs to repair a bad hair color service. As a result, today’s focus is on healing hair care.
Whoop, whoop, it’s Hump day! Since it is Wednesday, it is time for another Q&A with Ask the Pro Stylist. Laurel has a question to repair hair damage resulting from a bad color service.
Hi Deirdre,
I saw your advice and professional input online. Unfortunately, I will no longer go back to the gentleman stylist at an upscale day spa that I had been using for the past few years. Sometimes my hair would look really good, and I was happy with the outcome. (It costs a pretty penny there.) Then, once in awhile, it would not be so spectacular, and a bit blasé.
The topper was late December of last year when me mono toned my “full highlights” and left me under the dryer with my foils far to long! My hair, when wet, looked gray. Being 44, I do have a few, so I usually like to hide those with high/low lights. However, on this occasion, he only had one bowl of color at his station, which he was using on me.
So, once dry it was so light blonde that it almost looked white! My natural color is between a very dirty blonde to a light brown. Needless to say, I had it corrected the best I could by my sister’s professional and good friend.
But, it has been over 7 months and I haven’t had my hair touched since. It is quite fried and brittle from my former stylist’s December train wreck of an appointment.
I’m thinking of getting my nerves up to seek out someone skilled in Balayage, which I’ve never tried. Photos online look gorgeous utilizing this technique. But, before doing any more chemical hair treatments, I would love and need a phenomenal hair revitalizing moisturizer and strengthener to repair hair damage. Would appreciate your expert advice.
Thanks for writing in Laurel. To repair your hair damage, I would suggest a healthy trim/haircut. Balayage is a great way to keep healthy hair, as the rooty effect doesn’t require much maintenance, therefore fewer services in the salon.
In the meantime, I recommend BC REPAIR RESCUE FROM Schwarzkopf. Clients in the shop love the BC REPAIR RESCUE SEALED ENDS, as well as the entire line. For deep conditioning, Saphira Hair makes an unbelievable Miracle Mud that stylists love. Some even use it on the skin for amazing moisture.
