Runway Nails Tutorial: Get the NYFW Look

Runway nails were hot during NYFW thanks to celebrity nail artist Gina Edwards for KISS Products Inc. The following beauty tutorial is from the nail fashion seen at the Carmen Marc Valvo’s Spring 2016 presentation during NYFW in September.

Hello gorgeous, and welcome to Ask the Pro Stylist’s How-To Guide for Tuesday. This week we step back to September to NYFW and the nail art from the Carmen Marc Valvo’s Spring/Summer 2016 collection. The runway nails were created by Gina Edwards for Kiss who worked off the designer’s inspiration of butterfly koi fish, cranes and calligraphy, which featured a color palette of red, ivory and black.

According to Gina, “nude nails are the perfect complement to your fall wardrobe of deeper, richer colors. Update a classic nude with dimensional texture that will stay on trend come spring.”

To play off the ivory tones and textures of the collection, Gina Edwards created a dimensional eggshell effect on the nail with opalescent HD glitter from the KISS Salon Secrets Nail Art Starter Kit. To recreate the textured eggshell effect as seen at the native New Yorker’s NYFW presentation, Gina has provided the following runway nails tutorial.

Runway Nails Tutorial:

  • Shape natural nails into an oval shape or use KISS 100 Full Cover Nails in Active Oval.
  • Apply one coat of polish in an ivory shade to the nails.
  • If using adhesive nails, apply polish prior to attaching.
  • While polish is still wet, sprinkle opalescent glitter from the KISS Salon Secrets Nail Art Starter Kit from the middle of the nail to the tip.
  • Use a silicone or wooden stick to move the glitter into the desired position.
  • Apply a second coat of polish then let dry.
  • Finish with a topcoat.
  • Adhere nails according to manufacturer’s directions.

Visit next week for another Tuesday How-To, similar to today’s runway nails tutorial. Until then, happy styling!
