Shampoo Facts Everyone Should Know

Shampoo facts are the topic of this Wednesday’s Q&A with Ask the Pro Stylist. So, let’s get washing!

It’s Hump Day, whoop whoop! Welcome to this Wednesday Q&A with Ask the Pro Stylist. This week we cover shampoo facts. But, I am going to keep it simple.

A guest recently told me her friend suggested to stop washing the hair and use conditioner instead, because “shampoo strips the hair.” The guest asked me if this was correct, and my immediate reaction caught me off guard. My inner voice suddenly became audible and I shrieked, “That’s disgusting,” #NoFilter.

OK, so maybe that was a bit rude, and I apologized, but then offered an explanation and a few shampoo facts.

Shampoo Facts

The scalp needs to be cleansed. It is important to lather well, and massage the shampoo into the hair. You don’t need to rinse and repeat however, you should condition. You should not shampoo everyday. Using a conditioner only once in a while is a good treatment for damaged ends. A cleansing conditioner has also become alternative shampoo options, but the scalp and hair for that matter, would benefit from a clarifying shampoo once in a while to remove excess oil and product buildup.

The removal of dirt, dead skin, and pollutants with a vigorous shampoo stimulates blood flow to the scalp, thus promoting hair growth. When it isn’t cleansed, the pores get clogged. And to be honest, when you don’t shampoo, the scalp starts to emit a foul odor similar to BO. Wash your hair people, just be sure to do everything in moderation.
