Short Hairstyles: When is the Best Season for Short Hair

Short hairstyles are on the proverbial chopping block this Wednesday, and yes, a pun was intended. A client, and hopefully a reader, wants to know the best season to wear short hair.

Happy Hump Day! Whoot Whoot! Welcome to another edition of Ask the Pro Stylist’s beauty Q&A, where I try my hardest to answer all of your beauty, hair, nails and makeup questions.

If you are a subscriber to any of my Examiner.com columns, then you are aware of the amount of celebrities who have been chopping off their locks. Most recently Pamela Anderson, Kristin Chenoweth (pictured above) and now Jennifer Aniston have cut off their hair for one reason or another.

Now that the fall is upon us, a client with long hair, who has been contemplating cutting her hair to one of the short hairstyles she has seen plastered in the media, a pixie or the bob, questioned when the best season for short hair is.

My answer to her was yet another ambiguous one; there is no answer. It depends on many factors.

Generally speaking, if you like to put your hair up in the warmer weather, having one of those short hairstyles will feel confining. If your hair is curly, wavy or frizzy in the humidity, then styling short hair straight in the summer can be a task, especially for the wash-and-wear gals.

If you are handy with a blow dryer and flat iron, then any season works. And with the current version of the graduated bob hairstyle, making yet another comeback, wavy and curly hair work nicely for an alternate variation of this short hairstyle.
