Happy New Year to all of my readers. This week’s beauty question is being answered on schedule, as promised, and comes from a reader in Texas who needs a little skin care advice, particularly concerning the dry patches surrounding the nose area.
Hello. I have been following your writing for a while now and I really think that you can help me. I am 46 (I know, kinda old) and while my skin is basically okay, I have blackheads around the crooks of my nose and occasional dry patches. Please, what is the most effective way to clean my face?

Hi “folliculy-challenged” and thanks for writing in. I think I can offer a little skin care advice to help you out with your dry patches and black heads surrounding the nose area.
Firstly, let me start by saying that you are not old at all; especially as I am one year your junior having just turned 45 two weeks ago and I suffered the same skin condition a few years back. I have always had many black heads in the crook of my nose and as I began my forties, noticed dry, peeling skin in those areas as well.
It sounds like you may have seborrheic dermatitis, which is another name for what you have described and dermatologists recommend keeping the area cleansed and using an ointment such as a barrier cream. However, I would try the following skin care advice to start and if you do not notice a change after the second facial, then I would recommend seeking the advice of a doctor.
Having worked within the beauty field, I had easy access to professionals and estheticians that offered optimal skin care advice to decrease the amount of black heads and moisturize the dry areas. I began to have frequent facials, approximately every three months that cleared up the black heads, then to maintain the patch free skin; I use a light cream facial cleanser and a good moisturizer day and night. I avoided excessive exfoliating as it made my dry patches more severe.
I hope this skin care advice helps with your dry areas and the black heads around the nose. When I am not receiving moisturizers to sample, I use Avon Anew Rervaslist (the red jars are for skin in the 40s), but right now I am in love with Dermatude’s Active Hydra Booster.
