Summer hair care preparations should be under way with the arrival of the warmer weather. Have healthy summer hair this season with a simple tried and true trick from Ask the Pro Stylist.
Welcome readers to Ask the Pro Stylist’s how-to Tuesday when I try to provide at-home tips for gorgeous hair, nails and skin. As a professional stylist, I never promote at-home chemical services or hair cutting; one should always visit a salon for that. However, once you leave the salon, it is up to you to adhere to the directions of the stylist to maintain the color and health of your own hair. I am simply here to reiterate tips, tricks and advice told to guests from knowledgeable professionals.
Today we tackle summer hair care, my favorite topic, because I love the beach, plain and simple. I am like a lizard drawn to the sun, which is so bad for the skin. But there is nothing like the ocean breeze as your feet are buried in the sand, so don’t forget to slather on the sunblock and protect the hair with my tried and true summer hair care trick.
I know I have written about this before, but it warrants repeating. This summer hair care tip is so simple and leaves the hair gorgeous.
Summer Hair Care: How to Have Healthy Summer Hair
- If you’re crazy like me, you shower before going to the beach to shave. When you do, wet the hair, but do not shampoo.
- Squeeze out the moisture.
- Work your favorite conditioner into the hair and scalp and comb through.
- Secure the hair in a bun or clip.
- Wash the hair upon returning from the beach.
The conditioner protects the hair from the sun, especially if you choose one with an SPF. The heat activates the conditioner, simulating a salon treatment. Subsequently the hair is shiny, healthy and nourished. Summer hair care tip: Don’t use a pharmacy brand conditioner. Only use a professional hair care brand as recommended by your stylist. My favorite at the moment is Shea Butter Hair Treatment Masque by Savannah Hair Therapy. Paul Mitchell also makes a sun protection system that includes conditioner.
