A summer lipstick suggestion is this week’s beauty question answered, from the professional.
Welcome to Wednesday and another Hump Day beauty question answered for one of my readers. I titled this post, “Summer Lipstick Suggestion from the Beauty Professional,” for two reasons, one apparent, one not so much. Of course I am answering a reader’s summer lipstick question, which I will conquer first, and the other I will address towards the end.
In a Facebook message, I received this summer lipstick query:
Deirdre, I need a new lipstick (color and not gloss but not matte). Any suggestions???
Me: Creamy or long wear?
I like creamy-ish but I also use liner because I like a longer wear. I LOVE Clinique’s
“Think Bronze,” but I want something a little brighter for the summer. I bought a Mad Man pink from Estee Lauder but it doesn’t have enough color.
If you want color, try Aqua Rouge. With your complexion, I would try bright orange or coral-it lasts all day, can line as well and you adjust the gloss and or matte look you want with the dual ends of the tube. I love it!
It should be noted that the reader has a light olive complexion, medium brown hair and green eyes. Orange is not a color for everyone, however with a tan on a brave wearer, the lip color is perfect for summer. Oranges, corals, reds are at the opposite end of green spectrum and compliment each other nicely and make a great summer lipstick.
The second reason for my title is not to pat myself on the back and tout that I am a knowledgeable beauty professional. Even though I am a licensed and working professional, as well as knowledgeable in the beauty field, however, I liken the industry to the medical field, meaning, it is constantly evolving with new trends that require constant learning, of which I pride myself. I have always said if you are going to talk the talk, you better walk the walk.
Why? Last night I attended a red carpet event in NYC. As I stood next to another beauty writer from a very popular magazine, I was horrified that she was just a hot mess. You don’t have to be beautiful to be a beauty writer, but you should be put together and at least have lipstick on and hair neatly coiffed before asking A-list celebrities about their beauty secrets. It is my belief that people tend to take advice from writers who also adhere to what they write about. You wouldn’t hire a personal trainer who isn’t fit, so why would anyone take beauty advice from someone who is not a true beauty professional, with some type of training in the field?
Enough ranting. If you need a beauty question answered such as the summer lipstick advice from above, please email me at DeirdreAHaggerty@gmail.com, I am not perfect, but I am constantly training in the field to not only offer the best services to my clients, but to bring new and interesting information, tried and true,to my readers.
Happy Styling!
