Happy New Year!
Happy New Year hot-stuff! It’s HUMP DAY!! Once again, it’s been more than minute since posting a Wednesday, Ask the Pro Stylist question. So, let’s kick off the new year with hair and skin advice for the over 40 crowd.
In Need of Hair Advice
I have a monthly color client who also happens to be a senior. I adore her for many reasons. But mainly because she truly values my hair advice. She listens intently and follows the regimen I suggest. However, yesterday she voiced concerns regarding her thinning, lifeless and dry hair.
Hair Ages Just Like Our Skin Does
D listened intently with my explanation that our hair ages just as our skin. It greys like skin loses tonality. It loses moisture as aging skin needs hydration. Finally, hair thins as our skin loosens in some areas, crepes and thins, requiring products to strengthen and tighten. Basically, getting old sucks the beauty from what people notice first. But, this is not the end ladies.
Beauty Comes from Within
As I have written previously beauty begins within. Your hair and skin are an output of your health and nutrition. Hydration, healthy food, pro and prebiotics, biotin, exercise, no tobacco and limiting alcohol consumption are necessary to glow on the outside. However, we also need a little extra for great hair and skin.
Best Hair Mask
Often, I receive compliments about my hair; the color and texture. Yes, I am a hairstylist. However, I take excellent care of my hair. The advice I give is the advice I follow. I give my hair a break when not working. Twice a week I shampoo and use a hair mask weekly. I only color professionally and I get haircuts every 3 months. My favorite mask is from Wella. Additionally, I use heat protectants and limit the amount of heat.
Best Face Mask
In addition to hair remarks, I am also lucky enough to hear it about my skin. I am blessed to work in an environment that affords me the best hair and beauty care. Honestly, even if this was not true, I’d still find a way to find the top of the line. Vanity will do that. My favorite face mask is by StriVectin. I use a face mask twice a week and overnight retinol nightly. This mask detoxes the skin and I find a wonderful glow the next morning.
Happy Styling!
There you have it; my advice for great skin with the best hair mask and best skin mask. If you have a question, a product for review, or want information on hair appointments and career opportunities, please email me at asktheprostylist@gmail.com. Until then, happy styling!
