Wedding Updo: Plaited Braided Wedding Hairstyle

A wedding updo with braids captures all of the current hair trends with a classic twist and has become an integral part of bridal hairstyles. The following wedding hairstyle guide combines braids for a romantic wedding updo, perfect for the bridal gown that covers the shoulders.

It is always the right time to search wedding hairstyles. You want the perfect hair to complement the dress of your dreams. Ask the Pro Stylist has devoted five weeks to wedding hairstyles. Last week’s featured look was a romantic side ponytail. This Tuesday’s bridal hairstyle is a wedding updo with plaited braids.

The guide is courtesy of Lizzie Liros, wedding hairstyle specialist and White Sands Hair Care, a favorite of Ask the Pro Stylist and part of this Tuesday’s how-to segment. Each week Ask the Pro Stylist details how-to recreate a look at home, or I reiterate style guides from other hair professionals for those in the industry to use on clients.

This week features the third of a five-part bridal collection series with wedding hairstyles fromLizzie Liros. The plaited braided hairstyle combines the current trend of braids with a classic wedding updo for a youthful take on a 1920s classic. It is perfect for a wedding gown that covers on or both of the shoulders. The remaining two looks of gorgeous bridal hair tutorials will be featured here sequentially in the upcoming weeks.

  • Prepare the hair by spraying with White Sands Liquid Texture Medium Hold Thermal Styling Spray.
  • Starting at the nape, section hair in 1-inch sections, and curl all hair with a conical wand (Curls do not have to be perfect, you are just creating movement and texture for the plaits). Ask the Pro Stylist recommends Enzo Milano.
  • Cool the curls for 10 minutes before running fingers gently through the hair to loosen them.
  • Brush hair with a wide-tooth comb into a high ponytail at the temple area.
  • Divide the hair into 3 panels and plait each one.
  • Lizzie’s TIP:  If the bride’s hair is thin, attach a ponytail hair extension to the base of the ponytail elastic. Lizzie recommends Amazing Hair Australian hair extensions.
  • Gently stretch each plait to loosen and widen.
  • Position each plait as desired across the top of the hair and face, creating all your fullness on the crown and front of the head. Secure in place with bobby pins.
  • Pull out a few strands of hair to soften the style and create a whimsical flyaway finish.
  • Lizzie’s TIP: Do not apply any finishing product or hair spray to this wedding updo.

Be sure to come back next week for number four of Lizzie Liros’ wedding hairstyles, romantic curls. Until then, happy styling!
