Why Eyelash Extensions Could Damage Your Natural Lashes

Beauty Advice with Ask the Pro Stylist

Hello gorgeous! It’s time for some beauty advice with Ask the Pro Stylist. Unfortunately, my hectic work schedule keeps me from my passion. But, I am back to discuss eyelash extensions, (again), and how they could damage your natural lashes.

Eyelash Extensions Regurgitation

I have a love/hate relationship with eyelash extensions. As a result, today’s beauty advice is a follow-up to my touting of the spa treatment. Below is a synopsis of my adoration, then my angst.

How Eyelash Extensions Cause Damage

  1. Allergies: More than 10 years ago Kristen Chenoweth had an allergic reaction to the formaldehyde in a specific brand of eyelash extension glue. The use of formaldehyde is common in cosmetics and a reaction could occur immediately, or following years of use.
  2. Irritation: For me, if I did not have maintenance every 2 weeks, the glue became clumpy and irritated my eyes, causing swelling on the lid. This too signals an allergic reaction.
  3. Removal: If done incorrectly, there could be a significant loss of lashes. As a beauty professional, I have access to others who could assist in the removal. Unfortunately, my natural lashes were minimal due to extended wear. I suggest using Olive Oil on a mascara wands, gently stroking the lashes until they eventually fall out. EVOO has anti-aging benefits and is the youthful secret weapon of  Ryan Seacrest. However, better yet, visit a technician for seamless eyelash extension removal.

Yes, Long and Voluminous Lashes are Sexy as Hell

Yes, they are. As a matter of fact, gazing into a lover’s eyes as they bat their lashes at you is sexy as hell. In addition, history reveals a physiological and psychological reaction to voluminous and lengthy lashes as evident in Newsweek. As we are all aware, sexy does not always mean healthy. Therefore, I have a few suggestions to repair the damage and grow your lashes.

  • Olive Oil: As above, EVOO is beneficial, both inside and out. Since losing my lashes, I use Olive Oil to remove eye makeup.
  • Biotin: Once 50 arrived, Biotin became a staple in my vitamin regimen. It is readily available for purchase.
  • Lash Enhancing Serum: In my experience, GrandeLASH – MD works wonders. My lashes are becoming fuller and finally filling in.
  • Patience: Facts are, hair grows in phases. Depending upon which phase you are in will determine if any of the above will have success. Patience and maybe some temporary, magnetic lashes now and again can help you through the growth process.

Happy Styling!

Eyelash extensions are amazing for special occasions or a holiday. However, I do not recommend as extended use. If you have a hair, makeup, or beauty question like today’s eyelash extensions query, please email me at asktheprostylist@gmail.com. Until then, happy styling!
